The Story of the Bluebird
When I was in the 2nd Grade my teacher asked the class the question, 'If you could be anything you wanted to be in the whole world when you grow up...what would you be? She then told us to get out our manila paper and crayons and draw a picture of what we wanted to be. After we finished we would show our pictures to the class and tell why we had made our choice.
Alan had drawn a doctor because he wanted to make sick people well. Carlene had drawn a movie star because she wanted to be rich and famous. Missie had drawn a teacher so she could teach children how to read and write.
Then it was my turn. I held my drawing of a bluebird proudly in front of me. 'When I grow up I want to be a bluebird... and fly high in the sky... and sit in trees and sing happy songs.' (Click below for the rest of the story.)
Freddie snickered from the back row and said, 'That's stupid! You can't be a bluebird! You have to be a human being!
So today, I am a bluebird...at least in my paintings! My family and friends are all bluebirds, walking down winding yellow roads in little red shoes. The bluebird became my symbol for creativity and following your dreams. The triangles are those gifts and serendipitous moments that God places along our paths to show us the way. Angels watch over us on our exciting journey. I hope my art brings joy and encouragement to you as you walk down your own yellow road of dreams!
